Brown, who knew little about
the ACA until contacted for this
interview, felt the government
could have done more to inform
people about the health care
changes.
“
Honestly, I’m not the type of
person (who) watches the world
news or anything like that, but
I’m always on the email, I’m
always checking what’s going on
on the college side, and I really
feel that they should’ve at least
informed the college to inform
us,” Brown said.
Jeremy Lehman, 27 years old
and a recent Illinois State Univer-
sity graduate, also felt under-
informed and thought he should
have received a letter explaining
what he needs to do under the
new law. As it is currently, he
does not like that people may be
getting charged for something
they did not even know about,
which he thinks is a bit under-
handed.
Perhaps to help counter some
of the confusion and bustle to get
insurance before the year’s end,
the government has awarded
$150 million to health centers
across the United States to help
people find reasonably priced
coverage before they enroll in the
new Health Insurance Market-
place on Oct. 1, 2013.
Websites such as www.
healthcare.gov/marketplace have
also been set up to help people
and businesses find a plan that is
right for them according to their
needs and their particular state’s
plan.
is also available to help people
find a health center near them.
Despite the oncoming troubles
Brown and Lehman think they
will, after a lot more research into
the matter, be ready come 2014.
Brown said it will be just one
more thing to worry about on top
of finding a job and paying his
student loans.
“
I guess I’ll be living in a box
for a while,” he said. “So, that’ll
be fun.”
