HEARTLAND HEROES DINNER
The American Red Cross Heartland
Heroes Dinner, which recognizes the
good works of ordinary people who
do extraordinary things to make oth-
ers’ lives better in Peoria, Tazewell,
Fulton, Schuyler, Marshall, Mason,
Stark and Woodford counties, is
scheduled for Saturday, May 4 at the
Embassy Suites in East Peoria.
A reception begins at 5:30 p.m. with
the program and dinner at 6:30 p.m.
The keynote speaker will be Olympic
gold medalist speed skater Apolo
Anton Ohno.

SHOOT SKEET TO HELP KOMEN FOR
THE CURE ON MAY 4
The 2nd Annual Shoot for the Cure
skeet shooting event is scheduled for
Saturday, May 4 at the Peoria Skeet
and Trap Club, 1470 Spring Bay Road
in East Peoria.
Check-in begins at 9:30 a.m. and
shooting starts at 10 a.m.
Entry fee is $30 and includes two
rounds of skeet, two boxes of shells
and a participation T-shirt. The
proceeds will go the Susan G. Ko-
men For The Cure for breast cancer
research.

The 28th Annual Susan G. Komen
Race for the Cure will begin at 7
a.m. Saturday, May 11, at the Metro
Centre in Peoria.
Proceeds ill help fund programs and
research for Susan G. Koman for the
Cure, the world’s leading breast can-
cer research organization founded
on behalf of Peoria native Susan G.
Koman.
WEST BLUFF HOME TOUR SET FOR
MAY 19
The annual Grand Tour of West Bluff
Homes, which displays some of the
city’s finest historical and architec-
tural heritage, is from noon to 5 p.m.
on Sunday, May 19.
Three West Bluff houses and three
public establishments will be toured
within the 10 neighborhoods that
make up the West Bluff area. Tickets
are $12 in advance and $15 the day of
the tour. They can be purchased from
Sterling Flower Shop, Gregg Florist,
Geier’s Florist, Michelle’s Floral
Events, Rhythm Kitchen, Random
stores in Peoria, Haddad’s Down-
town Restaurant, and Fred’s Shoe
Repair in Peoria, Marilyn’s Bow-K in
Bartonville and The Old Hair Shoppe
in West Peoria and All In Bloom in
Washington. Proceeds are used to
beautify the West Bluff, which was
established in the mid-1800s.
