FROM EILEEN:
1. Working with your husband
24/7
is enlightening. Doug’s
mind is always active. Each day
he comes up with new ideas by
the dozens. Being in our home
studio is like sitting in the middle
of a kaleidoscope that is always
turning.
2. In publishing I was
happiest
when I was creating.
I had a lot of different jobs in
publishing and through the
process learned what I’m good
at (problem solving and creative
solutions) and what I’m really
bad at (proofreading). As a photo
editor, I looked at thousands of
photos, which helped develop
my sense of what makes a good
photograph.
3. My first camera was
a
hand-me-down from my father.
I used it to photograph the
July 1969 moonwalk on TV. I
never did much with it and it
wasn’t until Doug bought me a
Nikon 950 digital camera and
began teaching me to see as the
camera does that I really got into
photography.
4. My favorite photo
is the
one that we’re working on at the
moment. The creation process is
energizing and I get completely
absorbed in what we’re working
on. My favorite light painting
was when we were at Arenal
Volcano in Costa Rica and the
volcano exploded during the
shoot. My first thought at the
time was “now we’ve got the
shot!” Only when the evacuation
sirens sounded did I worry that
we might not make it out of
there.
