Poetry
P E A C E
Vengeance seeking monsters
aimed at
random
homes and lives.
Security
ripped apart
never to be the same again.
Just as all looks hopeless
just as tears come
the strong arm of a stranger
reaches out.
A tiny flame of comfort
begins.
Broken hearts
thank God
for all that remains
family and friends.
And just for a moment
there’s peace.
Nel Babitzke is a Peoria native and lives now with her husband in East Peoria. She has been
writing poetry since childhood and she attributes her love of words to her “proper English speaking
grandmother” and her father, Chuck Satchfield, who included a poem in every card he sent her.
