to heartworm treatments, which
are costly and result in the dogs
being kept more or less quaran-
tined for up to six weeks during
treatment.
As it is, Foster Pet Outreach
will hold a pet a mandatory 10
days before allowing an adop-
tion so it can learn about the
animal, including determining
whether it is healthy. “That is our
own guideline. We have learned
through the years that learning as
Jake, who is less than two years old, sits with his foster parent Brian.
Jake was rescued from a shelter in southern Illinois the day before
he was going to be euthanized because of heartworms. He has been
successfully treated for the condition and is ready for adoption.
