To say finalists for The Peorian of the Year are worthy is an understatement
It was interesting to learn that four of the five finalists for the inaugural The Peorian of the Year Award have farming in their background.
It was encouraging to learn that for the most part, that's where the similarities ended.
Our finalists, who were chosen from among 20 nominees, are quite a diverse group, with one native Peorian and four transplants who now consider the Peoria area home.
What does bind them is a fondness for this area and a desire to make it a good place to live and raise a family.
They are, in alphabetical order:
Glen Barton
Carl Cannon
Jim McConoughey
Bonnie Noble
Dr. Jasti Rao
During the month of March you, our readers, will be invited to go on our website,
www.thepeorian.com, to vote for whom you believe should receive The Peorian of the Year Award. The winner will be announced at a luncheon at the Par-A-Dice Hotel in East Peoria.
Along with the beautiful award, crafted especially for The Peorian of the Year by Hiram Toraason of Toraason Glass in Peoria, The Peorian will present $10,000 to a not-for-profit organization chosen by the award winner.
Inside this edition of The Peorian you find profiles of the finalists, including their not-for-profit organization of choice. Also, each will be interviewed on The Peorian TV show during March and April, Sundays at 8 a.m. on WHOI-TV.
